Tips for Engaging Youth & Families in State Planning
The active engagement of youth, young adults, family members, or parent center staff is valued in state planning for secondary transition activities and services. Given the importance of these roles and voices, as well as the complex nature of schools and transition planning, it is important for state interagency teams to understand how to involve them, the skills and knowledge needed, and the strategies that can increase student self-determination and active engagement in the secondary transition process.

The NTACT:C Strategic Planning Pre-Assessment provides a pathway through the Strategic Planning Tool by helping teams identify their priority areas for goal setting. It is designed to help teams identify and prioritize the areas of
(Kohler, Gothberg, Fowler, and Coyle, 2016) for deeper assessment of current practice.Information gathered from this process will help your team set priorities, inform their goal identification and plan development. Although this is designed to be a companion tool for the Transition Strategic Planning Tool, it can be used with other team strategic planning processes.

The Strategic Planning Tool is for use by state interagency teams at the CBI and throughout the rest of the year. It is designed to sustain team momentum from the CBI and ensure that tasks and goals are being met.
The NTACT:C Strategic Planning Pre-Assessment is aligned with the Strategic Planning Tool to provide guidance for preparing for team planning to make the process more meaningful and productive.
